my sister’s baby shower

If you read my What’s Up Wednesday, then you know that this month I hosted my sister’s baby shower. She is expecting TWINS just before Christmas and our family could not be more excited for her. She is having a boy and girl!

We decided to have the shower at her community clubhouse and invited 30 of her closest friends and family. My sister is a bit on the non-traditional side and did not want a theme, any pink or baby shower games. So, I decided to keep things clean and natural with lots of greenery for a pop of color.

Since I wasn’t allowed to plan games and still wanted to include some sort of interactive activity, I had each guest decorate a wooden block to create a personalized set for the twins. I included letter stickers for some inspiration. I ordered these blocks from Etsy and I found them to be affordable and nice quality. The instructions recommend for Mod Podge after blocks are decorated so they hold up.

Note: my husband’s Orioles block in true Nicholas fashion.

I wanted to do a Mimosa Bar with different juices and fruit. For snacks, we ended up going with ham and cheese sliders, chicken salad cups, pineapple salsa, guacamole, cheese and crackers and a veggie platter.

For dessert, I ordered the famous Whole Foods yellow cake with buttercream icing, “dirty” style. We had this for Violet’s first birthday party and it is SO good. It is now my go-to cake because it is such a crowd pleaser. My sister’s sweet friend, Lindsay, made chocolate cupcakes in craft paper with blue and purple sprinkles, because you know, no pink.

We ate, we drank, we opened gifts, took photos, decorated blocks, and raffled off a barnwood frame in a diaper raffle. Each guest left with a s’mores favor to pull out on a chilly night when they are craving something sweet.

And now we wait for the arrival of the twins!

And of course, any excuse for a cupcake makes this proud big cousin happy…
